Josiah Follows God

Lesson Summary

Josiah was one of the few good kings that ruled in Judah during the time of the divided kingdom. Josiah set about repairing the temple and as they were cleaning, they found the Book of the Law. The king had

it read, and when he heard the words of the Lord, he tore his clothes, sought the Lord, and led his people in repentance. The land was purged of idolatry and the high places were torn down.

Josiah became king when he was only eight years old, and yet he was one of the best and most-influential kings of the divided kingdom. He led the people to repent and to do what was right in the sight of the Lord. In fact, 2 Kings 23:25 tells us that “there was no king like him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might, according to all the Law of Moses, nor did any like him arise after him.”

Prayer

Thank God for providing examples in Scripture of men who were faithful to the call of God. Thank God that he calls us, regardless of age, ability,

or experience level, and equips us to do his work. Ask that he provides opportunities for you to share God’s Word and to point others to him. Ask for a heart that desires to follow him above all else.
